New Knaf Company. Who Dis?

Aurora Knife and Tool is the Reed family - Michael, Melody, and the kiddos. Michael is a long-time knife nut, but became active in the knife community in 2019 under the moniker "Misheard Knife Reviews," posting tongue-in-cheek knife content on Instagram and YouTube. After attending Blade Show 2019 and meeting in person many of the friends they had made online, Michael and Melody were hooked.

Although Michael doesn't have a design background (he's a pastor, educator, and musician by calling and training) he's always been a tinkerer who can't help trying his hand at the art forms he loves. He began designing fixed blades and making them for friends and family in 2018, and in 2020, Michael entered a folding knife design competition. The design didn't place, but enough people seemed interested that Michael and Melody began contemplating a new venture in the knife world.

After much contemplation and sage advice from friends and family, Aurora Knife and Tool was formed in early 2021. Our goal is the same as it was when Misheard Knife Reviews began - to give back to the community that has given so much to us. So if we can provide a useful tool, merch that makes you smile, or an encouraging word along the way, we'll feel like we've done what we came to do.

Why "Aurora"?

*This next section is best read in the voice of Sam Elliot*

First, we think we all need a reminder that every day is a new opportunity. "Aurora" is an ancient Latin word meaning "dawn" - that moment before the sun fully breaks over the horizon. When dawn breaks, we're given the gift of a new day and it's up to us to make the most of it.

Second, we want Aurora Knife and Tool to bring you new, every-day tools to help you get through each day. Whether it's a fixed blade, a folder, or a multitool, our hope is that when you're carrying something from Aurora, you're better prepared to face the day.

Third, we believe the words of the biblical prophet Jeremiah are as true today as they were when he wrote them thousands of years ago, "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning." (Lam 3:22-23). Our hope for each day is ultimately rooted in our faith in Jesus Christ and his never-ending love for us. If you agree with that, that's awesome and we hope the Aurora gear you carry serves to remind you daily of that truth. If you don't, we hope you'll be our friend anyway!
